Frequently Asked Questions
What age can my child start Taekwondo?
Children can start at age 3½! Our Little Tigers program is designed for ages 3½–5 and serves as a stepping stone into our regular classes. The program lasts approximately eight months and focuses on coordination, following instructions, basic hand and kicking techniques, and Taekwondo forms.
Does my child need any experience to join?
No experience is needed! Our instructors will help your child get involved and learn the basics, one step at a time.
My child is shy or nervous. How do you help them feel comfortable?
It’s natural for children to feel shy or nervous in a new setting. Our classes are grouped by similar ages, and our instructors work to help each student feel welcome. We also partner with parents to encourage children to try something new, work through their fears, and build confidence at their own pace.
My child has lots of energy or trouble focusing. Can Taekwondo help?
Our classes combine high-energy movement with structure and discipline, giving students opportunities to practice listening, following directions, and self-control. Progress takes time, but we often see students improve their focus with consistent training. We also recognize that energy and curiosity are natural parts of childhood—we want to encourage those qualities while helping students learn how to channel them.
What happens during the free trial class, and how long is it?
Classes last approximately 30–40 minutes. During the free trial, your child will receive an introduction to our school and join other beginner students to learn basic Taekwondo techniques.
What should my child wear to their first class?
For a free trial, comfortable clothing that allows easy movement is all they need. Students enrolling in a paid trial or membership receive a Taekwondo uniform.
Can parents stay and watch classes?
Yes! Both studios have a designated area where parents can stay and watch their children train.
How many classes per week do you recommend?
We recommend three classes per week for steady progress. Attending twice a week is also a good starting point. As students reach higher belt levels and techniques become more challenging, attending twice a week may mean they need more time to prepare for their next belt.
Can students join at any time?
Yes! Students can enroll at any time. Our classes are organized by age and skill level, including a dedicated beginner class for white and yellow belts.
Do you offer classes for teens and adults?
Yes! Our Teen & Adult classes meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 7:10 PM. Whether you’re a beginner or returning to martial arts, it’s never too late to take on a new challenge!
Will my child participate in sparring?
Yes. Sparring becomes a required part of training starting at orange belt.
How do we enroll through Blue Ridge, Taylion, or Miji Health?
Each homeschool or enrichment program handles funding a little differently. Typically, families submit a payment request for Taekwondo classes through their program. Once approved, we coordinate with the organization to arrange payment. Contact your preferred studio, and we’ll help you understand the next steps.
